Rams Are the Team to Beat
The Los Angeles Rams have separated themselves from the rest of the Super Bowl futures market heading into the season. BetMGM currently lists Los Angeles at +500 to win Super Bowl LXI, while FanDuel has the Rams at +550.
That makes the Rams the shortest-priced team in the futures market and the early favorite to win the Lombardi Trophy.
There is plenty of reason for the Rams to attract attention. Los Angeles has made significant additions to an already talented roster, including the acquisition of star pass rusher Myles Garrett. The surprise return of future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Aaron Donald has also generated substantial betting interest in the Rams.
The biggest question for bettors may be whether the short +500 price leaves enough value for a futures wager before the season begins.
Buffalo Bills Among the Top AFC Favorites
The Buffalo Bills remain one of the strongest Super Bowl contenders in the AFC. Their current price is around +1000 to +1100 depending on the sportsbook.
Buffalo has been a regular contender in the AFC in recent seasons, and the Bills’ Super Bowl odds reflect the market’s confidence that they can make another deep playoff run.
At +1000, a $100 winning wager would produce a $1,000 profit, plus the original $100 stake.
Ravens and Seahawks Close Behind
The Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks are also near the top of the futures board.
The Ravens are around +1100 to +1200, depending on the sportsbook, while Seattle is similarly priced around +1100 to +1200.
That puts both teams in an interesting position for bettors who believe the Rams are overpriced at the top of the market.
Seattle is particularly interesting after winning the previous Super Bowl, while Baltimore remains one of the AFC’s perennial contenders.
Chiefs Still Among the Favorites
The Kansas City Chiefs are no longer sitting at the very top of the Super Bowl futures market, but they remain firmly among the favorites.
Kansas City is currently around +1500 to +1600 at major sportsbooks.
For bettors who believe the Chiefs can return to the Super Bowl after a disappointing previous season, the longer price could be more attractive than the shorter odds available on some of the leading favorites.
Chargers, Patriots and Eagles Worth Watching
The Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles are all currently around the +1600 range at some major sportsbooks.
The Chargers are an increasingly popular AFC contender, while New England has emerged as another team worth watching in the conference. Philadelphia remains one of the NFC’s strongest teams and could challenge the Rams for conference supremacy.
At +1600, each of these teams would produce a $1,600 profit on a successful $100 futures wager, before the original stake is returned.
Super Bowl Futures Betting: What to Watch
The Super Bowl futures market will change dramatically once the regular season begins.
A team’s odds can move substantially based on wins and losses, injuries, quarterback performance, strength of schedule and other developments throughout the season.
For example, a team priced at +1600 before Week 1 could become a much shorter price after starting the season with several impressive victories. Conversely, an injury to a key player or a poor start could cause a contender’s odds to lengthen quickly.
That is why comparing Super Bowl odds at multiple sportsbooks can be important for futures bettors.
Who Is the Best Super Bowl Bet Right Now?
The Rams are clearly the team to beat according to the current futures market, but being the favorite does not automatically make a team the best bet.
At +500, Los Angeles offers considerably less potential profit than teams available at +1000, +1100, +1600 or longer odds.
Bettors looking for a balance between championship probability and potential return may want to compare the leading favorites with second-tier contenders before choosing a futures wager.
The Buffalo Bills, Ravens, Seahawks, Chiefs, Chargers and Eagles are among the teams that could provide alternatives to the favorite.
Of course, Super Bowl futures are long-term wagers, and the NFL season can change the betting landscape quickly.
