Cowboys Activate WR CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys recently secured their star wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, with a four-year, $136 million contract extension, making him the second-highest paid wideout in the NFL, behind only Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson. However, the road to this deal was not without complications, as Lamb missed most of the preseason while holding out in an effort to push for a more favorable contract.

Due to his extended absence, the Cowboys placed Lamb on the commissioner’s exempt list after the contract was finalized. Typically reserved for players in unique situations, the exempt list allows a team to retain a player without occupying a roster spot. In Lamb’s case, this allowed the Cowboys a two-game roster exemption, giving him additional time to reintegrate after missing training camp and preseason action.

However, the Cowboys chose not to use the full exemption period, opting instead to activate Lamb in time for Week 1 of the regular season. His presence on the field will be key as Dallas looks to make a strong start to the season.

In addition to activating Lamb, the Cowboys also promoted linebacker Nick Vigil from the practice squad for their season opener. Vigil, a former starter for the Bengals, will be making a regular-season appearance with his fifth NFL team, though his role has diminished in recent years.

With both Lamb and Vigil set to suit up for the opener, the Cowboys are preparing to enter the season at full strength, with their focus squarely on making a deep playoff push.
