The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott have reached an agreement on a groundbreaking four-year, $240 million contract extension just ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns, as reported by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The new deal includes $231 million in guaranteed money and an $80 million signing bonus, marking Prescott’s second contract extension with the Cowboys since entering the league.
With an average annual salary of $60 million, Prescott’s extension makes him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history, surpassing recent extensions for Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love, who each signed deals worth $55 million annually. This extension secures Prescott’s place in Dallas through the 2028 season, which will be his age-35 campaign.
The Cowboys, who selected Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, previously signed him to a four-year, $160 million deal in 2021. Prescott’s continued success, including three Pro Bowl selections, has cemented his role as the team’s leader and cornerstone. With this new extension, Dallas locks in its star quarterback as they aim for sustained success and deeper playoff runs over the next several years.
